What about physical therapy rates in Switzerland? In contrast to the Netherlands, the tariff codes in Switzerland are simpler and more general. Nevertheless, there are some important rate positions that every physiotherapist in Switzerland should know. Here you can read all about the most commonly used rates, including the associated fees.

7301: General Physiotherapy/Allgemeine Physiotherapie

The most commonly used rate code is 7301—approximately 80% of all physiotherapy treatments are included. This code is used for general complaints and unilateral diagnoses, such as back problems, heel spurs or a golfer's elbow.

  • Compensation: 47-53 CHF per treatment (depending on the canton).

7311: Comprehensive Physiotherapy/Aufwändige Physiotherapy

The code 7311 is intended for more complex treatments, such as:

  • Treatment of children up to 6 years.
  • Neurological disorders (e.g. MS or ALS).
  • Treatment of multiple joints or parts of the body.
  • Palliative care.
  • Compensation: 75-85 CHF per treatment (depending on the canton).

7350: First treatment supplement/Zuschlag für die erste Behandlung

The code 7350 applies to the first consultation, in which the physiotherapist takes an anamnesis, conducts an examination and draws up a treatment plan. This code is always combined with a 7301 or 7311.

  • Compensation: 23-27 CHF (depending on the canton).

7354: Travel time allowance/Pauschale für die Weg-Zeitentschädigung

When referring to home treatments, travel time can be declared with code 7354.

  • Compensation: 32-38 CHF (depending on the canton).

7340: Medical Training Therapy (MTT)/Medical Training Therapy (MTT)

The code 7340 is used when a doctor prescribes medical training therapy. This is often the last part of a treatment process, where direct guidance is no longer necessary, but further trains the patient with an individual program.

  • How does it work?:
    • A referral gives the right to 36 sessions (within 3 months).
    • The code 7340 may 34 times be declared.
    • The code 7301 is used twice: when setting up or controlling the training program.
  • Compensation: 23-27 CHF per session (depending on the canton).

Summary

The Swiss system for physiotherapy rate codes is simpler than in the Netherlands, but offers clear guidelines for different types of treatments. Whether it's general physiotherapy, complex care, or medical training therapy: knowing these rate codes ensures that you can work smoothly and are properly rewarded.
